3 - Em sombras ou em luz - (Riitta Eliasen)

Em 1986 tive a oportunidade de ir pela primeira vez a Israel com colegas oficiais americanos, 

entre eles minha cunhada Riitta e seu esposo Sammy. Veja foto do grupo, entre eles, bem à direita,

o casal Eliasen. Muitas licões espirituais Riitta extraiu daquela excursão gloriosa da qual tive

o privilégio de participar também. 

Quando foi Secretária-em-Chefe na Finlândia, Riitta publicou artigos para o Sotahuuto/Krigsropet, 

que me foram enviados por uma colega do Quartel para que, traduzidos, constem neste meu blog4.

Tenho durante muitos anos vivido em diferentes lugares na América e percebido que muitos cristãos

 ainda vivem presos ao tempo do Antigo Testamento. Eles acreditam que o caminho para Deus é

 segundo o sacerdote, como no tempo antigo. Cada dia os sacerdotes apresentavam culto e tentavam

 ajudar as pessoas a chegarem à presenca de Deus.

Muitas coisas têm mudado se pensarmos no Antigo e no Novo Testamento. Ora, a primeira alianca

 também tinha preceitos  de servico sagrado, e o seu santuário terrestre (Hebreus 9:1).  Por causa 

disso nós temos um grande Sumo-Sacerdote, Jesus Cristo, e não precisamos de sacerdotes da 

mesma forma como no Antigo Testamento. Porquanto há um só Deus e um só Mediador entre

 Deus e os homens, Cristo Jesus, homem (2 Timóteo 2:5).

Temos agora uma nova alianca fundamentada no sacrifício de Jesus. A primeira alianca é apenas

uma sombra da que estava por vir. Ora, visto que a lei tem sombra dos bens vindouros, não a

imagem real das cousas, nunca jamais pode tornar perfeitos os ofertantes, com os mesmos 

sacrifícios que, ano após ano, perpetuamente, eles oferecem (Hebreus 10:1). Esta nova alianca

 é maior, pois é baseada em promessa mais forte, de acordo com Hebreus 8:6.

No Antigo Testamento o homem viveu em sombra, hoje vivemos na luz. Nós temos a possibilidade

 de viver em uma melhor realidade.

Entremos na presenca do Senhor! Nós podemos vir com coragem à presenca de Deus! No tempo

 do Antigo Testamento era diferente. Não te chegues para cá... (Êxodo 3:5). Um pecador não podia

 alcancar um Deus Santo. Só Moisés se chegará ao Senhor; os outros não se chegarão, nem o povo 

subirá com ele (Êxodo 24:2).

Deus havia dito a Moisés no Monte Sinai: Desce, adverte ao povo que não traspasse o termo até o 

Senhor para vê-lo, a fim de muitos deles não perecerem (Êxodo 19:21). Existiam regras determinadas 

para o povo. Se eles ultrapassassem essas regras, seriam condenados.

As muitas regras no Antigo Testamento confirmaram o fato de que as pessoas não podiam

aproximar-se do Senhor. Contudo haja a distância de cerca de dois mil côvados entre vós e ela. 

Não vos chegueis a ela... (Josué 3:4).

Antes era mais seguro ficar longe, hoje é mais seguro ficar perto.

No Antigo Testamento as pessoas viviam em sombras, hoje vivemos na luz. Temos possibilidade de 

seguir a Jesus. Ele mesmo disse: Eu sou a luz do mundo; quem me segue não andará nas trevas,

pelo contrário, terá a luz da vida (João 8:12).

Hoje é mais seguro viver perto. Mas muitos não o fazem. João explica a razão pela qual

 muitos preferem permanecer nas sombras. O julgamento é este: Que a luz veio ao mundo, e os homens

 amaram maisas trevas do que a luz; porque as suas obras eram más (João 3:19).

É melhor viver na luz. Se vivermos nas sombras estamos em condenacão. Se, porém, andarmos na luz,

como ele está na luz, mantemos comunhão uns com os outros, e o sangue de Jesus, seu Filho, nos

 purifica de todo pecado

 (1 João 1:7).

Se vivemos na luz de Jesus, temos o perdão para os nossos pecados e nenhuma condenacão paira 

sobre nós.

No tempo do Antigo Testamento os homens viviam nas sombras, hoje vivemos na luz!

In the Shadow and in the Light

I have lived many years in American countries, and there I noticed that many Christians still live according to the old covenant, that is, in Old Testament times. They believe that the way to God goes through the priest. That's how it was in the times of the OT, when the priests used to provide spiritual service, helping people come closer to the presence of the Lord.

Many things have changed between the Old and the New Testaments. Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary (Hebrews 9:1). But because we have the High Priest Jesus Christ, we no longer need priests in the same way as in the OT. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus (I Timothy 2:5).

Now we have a new covenant in force, whose foundation is Christ. The old covenant was simply a shadow of the better convenant that was coming. The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming - not the realities themselves (Hebrews 10:1). This new covenant is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises (Hebrews 8:6).

In the Old Testament people lived in the shadow; now we live in the light. We have the possibility of living in a better reality.

Come into the presence of the Lord! Recently, we have spent many good moments with this invitation theme in mind. We can come freely into the presence of the Lord.

Things were the opposite in the old covenant times: "Do not come any closer" (Exodus 3:5). The sinful person was not allowed to come closer to the holy God. "Moses alone is to approach the LORD; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him" (Exodus 24:2).

God told Moses on Mount Sinai: "Go down and warn the people so they do not force their way through to see the LORD and many of them perish" (Exodus 19:21). The people had a clear rule. If they went over the limits, imminent judgement would befall on them.

The many rules of the Old Testament confirmed this reality: people could not come too close to the presence of the Lord. "But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it" (Joshua 3:4).

Before, it used to be safer to keep a distance, now it is safer to come closer.

In the OT people lived in the shadow. Now we live in the light. We have a possibility of following Jesus. Jesus himself has said: "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).

Now, it is safer to come closer. Many don't, nevertheless. John explains why many stay in the shadow. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed (John 3:19-20).

It is better to live in the light. If we stay in the shadow, we are under the judgement of God. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin (I John 1:7). If we live in the light of Jesus, we receive forgiveness for all our sins and no condemnation befalls on us.
